Eurasian section of the World Organization United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG)
World Organization United Cities and Local Governments is a voluntary international alliance of associations, unions and individual municipalities established in 2004 in order to cement the role of local and regional governments in the global decision-making.
The UN recognized UCLG as its principal partner in working with local governments.UCLG consists of 1 metropolitan section, 1 section for regional governments, and 7 regional sections, including Eurasian.
Volgograd has been a member of the Eurasian section of UCLG since 2005.
Via their participation in UCLG, local leaders can represent rights and needs of citizens at the global level, develop and promote solutions to the problems of globalization and urbanization they meet at the local level.
